Arguably the most admired aircraft of WWII the beautiful lines of the Spitfire combined with the sound of the Roll Royce Merlin engine will forever be associated with The Battle of Britain. This aircraft P9398 was flown from Hornchurch in 1940 by New Zealand ace Flt. Lt ‘Al’ Deere. DSO AFC. The Mk I Spitfire was the first of many types and the Spitfire was the only fighter to remain in production for the duration of WWII.
