Armed with 4 x 0.303 inch machine guns, 4 x 20 mm cannon and carrying two short finned 500lb bombs in the bomb bay with the option of another two on wing pylons, the Mark VI fighter bomber version of the Mosquito was produced in greater numbers than any other variant. This particular aircraft MM 403 on the 18th February 1944 crewed by pilot Flt/ Lt T McPhee DFC DFM and navigator Geoffrey Atkins took part in “Operation Jericho”, the daring low level attack on Amiens Prison, which enabled so many French patriots awaiting execution in the jail to escape. Mosquitos from 464 Squadron took part in many other operations including anti V1 site and night intruder raids. On the 31st of October 1944 it contributed eight Mosquitos to the raid on Aarhus University in Denmark which was being used as the local Gestapo HQ.
